World Literature belongs to the number of those few academic disciplines taught at school. Its main purpose is to bring students to the best achievements of world literature and culture, develop creative personalities and form a humanistic approach to the world, high moral standards, aesthetic tastes.

In class, the teacher of World Literature resorts to such non-standard approaches and techniques as a lesson-study, a lesson-portrait, "one day from the life of the author (the hero)", "revival of an image or thing", "I am a book", "I am the sea", "I am a rose", a joint project. All of them are aimed at developing the learners' creativity.
