LEARNING THROUGH EXPERIENCE: Kaminne Selo as a Space for Exploration and Thinking

What is learning beyond the classroom walls like? No bell, no desks, no blackboard…

On November 6–7, students of grades 6–7 of the Foundational Educational Institution Biotechnological Lyceum "Radowell" set off to Kaminne Selo—one of the most mysterious places in Polissia. Here, everything sparks curiosity. And the main task is to channel that curiosity in the right direction.

Outside the classroom, it’s easy to get distracted: the forest calls, the stones attract attention, you want to run, explore, look for mushrooms, and touch nature. In such conditions, organizing the learning process becomes a real challenge for teachers.

It takes wisdom, patience, and flexibility to teach children to manage their attention in the natural environment—to experience knowledge, not just hear it. This is true pedagogical mastery. Our teachers immersed the students in the fascinating stories of Kamianne Selo, and together they conducted field research:

  • describing megalithic stones
  • proposing hypotheses
  • engaging in discussions
  • comparing these objects with sacred sites around the world
  • drawing insightful conclusions, which they will later develop in their own work

Once again, we are convinced: learning through experience is always a new discovery—for both students and teachers. It is about going beyond one’s own experience and expanding the way we understand the world.
